| Area info. |
Villa Rica is located just a few kilometres outside of Patti which is a small, peaceful town on the North East coast of Sicily. Originally of Norman origin, the town offers shops and restaurants along with an 18th century cathedral. The coastline of Patti is made up of sandy beaches and rocky coastlines and includes the famous Laguna di Oliveri, a series of natural lagoons bordering the sea, which are best viewed from the promontory at Tyndaris.
The historical ruins of Tyndaris are located just 6km away form the farmhouse. Originally a Greek settlement dating from around 400BC, it later came under Roman rule. Much of the detail of the ancient city still remains, including the original street plan, Roman baths, the Greek theatre and the Basilica.
The farmhouse provides an ideal location for exploring both the East Coast (Taormina, Mount Etna, Catania etc) and also the North West Coast (Cefalu & Palermo including the Nebrodi and Madonnie National Parks). The Aeolian Islands can also be easily reached as there is a regular boat service during summer months which departs from Patti or Milazzo.
