Summary of accommodation Located in a quiet Piazza in the old quarter of Licata, this delightful bed & breakfast has been completely renovated and refurbished to an excellent standard. The B&B offers five rooms along with two studio apartments and is full of period features. The closest airport is Catania, which around two hours drive away whilst Palermo is approximately two and a half hours drive.

Accommodation details The B&B occupies several period buildings which are set around the small square of “Piazzetta Confraternita di S. Girolamo” within the old quarter of Licata. Originally fisherman’s accommodation, the bed & breakfast is within easy walking distance of the small port and the town’s amenities.

All of the rooms and communal areas within the B&B have been lovingly renovated and decorated using typical Sicilian techniques and materials.

The accommodation offers 1 single room, 2 double rooms and 2 triple rooms. All of which have been individually and tastefully decorated and furnished with period Sicilian furniture. All of the rooms offer a small balcony, a television and a private bathroom fitted with shower, sink, bidet and toilet.

The B&B also offers two small studio apartments (one double and one triple) which have also been furnished with antiques and decorated in a typical Sicilian style. The original well has been left within one of the apartments adding to the charming rustic style of the accommodation. Each apartment includes a small kitchenette with hob, sink, fridge/freezer and various storage cupboards. The apartments also include a private bathroom fitted with shower, sink, bidet and toilet.

All of the bathrooms within the B&B have been decorated using the famous, colourful ceramic tiles of St Stefano di Camastranella.

There are a number of communal areas within the B&B for guests to enjoy, including a lounge area with sofas, internet connection, a small bar and a range of local produce for purchase (many of which are used for the breakfast). A small staircase leads to the breakfast room where guests are served a varied breakfast.

In front of the small church within the square there is a laundry room with a washing machine, which guests can utilise free of charge. Adjacent to the laundry room there is a modern bar (open only to guests) where guests can enjoy a drink. Although the B&B does not offer private parking for cars, within very close proximity there is a public car park which is free of charge.

Area info. The B&B is located in the heart of the historical centre of Licata, which was first founded by the Greeks in 280BC. Under Roman control the town became an important market town and fishing port, a tradition that continues until today. Many of the buildings in the old quarter date from 17th and 18th century, although some of the churches date from 16th century.

The accommodation is conveniently located for all of the town’s amenities, including shops, restaurants, bars, banks etc. The main sea front road or “Lungomare”, with its long stretches of sandy beaches is also within a very short walk of the B&B.

The historical centre of the city is full of narrow roads and cobbled streets which are typical of Sicilian towns, whilst there are also numerous ancient churches and convents. More recent buildings of architectural interest include the art-deco “Palazzo del Municipio” which was designed by Ernesto Basile and built in 1936.

Licata provides an excellent base for exploring the south coast. There are numerous long stretches of sandy beaches with white sand and crystal blue seas. The beaches are interrupted in places by areas of rocky coastline which have been sculpted by the sea and the wind.

Agrigento, the Provincial capital is located 40km to the east of the town and is famous for the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO listed World Heritage site. The site features numerous Doric Temples which date from 5th Century BC as well as a museum displaying many of the archaeological treasures uncovered at the site.

Other sites within reasonable driving distance include the Roman Villa near Piazza Armerina, the 15th century ‘Castello di Falconara’ and Caltagirone, the ceramic capital of Sicily.
