| Area info. |
The town of Solarino is approximately 3km away and offers restaurants, supermarkets, banks and shops whilst the larger town of Siracusa is approximately 15km away. Sites of interest within the main town of Siracusa include the ancient Greek Theatre, where performances are still staged during May & June and which forms part of a larger archaeological park. The archaeological museum has one of the best displays of archaeological remains in Sicily. The old cathedral located in the heart of Ortigia date from 1728, but includes 8th century Norman artefacts.
Siracusa also offers beaches which are generally located to the south of the city and include the resorts of Arenella, Fontane Bianche and the protected coastline of Vendicari.
Further afield from Siracusa, but within easy driving distance are the Baroque towns of Noto, Modica, Ispica and Ragusa Ibla. The popular resorts of Taormina, Giardini Naxos and Letojanni are located north of Catania, whilst the imposing form of Mount Etna is easily visible from Siracusa and offers numerous opportunities for excursions.
