| Area info. |
The hotel is situated on one of the main streets of Modica ‘Bassa’ which incorporates the old quarter of the town and offers an array of shops, restaurants, coffee bars and other amenities and historical sites. The other half of the town is known as Modica ‘Alta‘ and includes the Chiesa di San Giorgio, which is one of the most extraordinary Baroque churches in South-east Sicily.
Further afield from Modica are the other Baroque towns of this corner of Sicily, which together have been recognised with UNESCO World Heritage status. These include Ragusa Ibla, Ispica and Scicli within Ragusa Province and Noto, in the Province of Ragusa.
Away from the Baroque architecture there are some superb beaches throughout the Province, including the picturesque town of Sampieri. The Cava d‘ Ispica are located close to Modica and offer a 13km long gorge, littered with prehistoric tombs, whilst the 19th century castle at Donnafugata is well worth a visit.
