| Accommodation details |
Hotel Raya began life as a guesthouse 40 years ago, but has since established a reputation as one of the hippest and most exclusive hotels in the Mediterranean. The hotel is orientated towards couples rather than families - and children under 12 are not permitted to stay. The hotel is split between three buildings.
|
| Raya Alto |
Built into the side of the hill approximately five minutes above the port of San Pietro, this area of the hotel offers 30 double rooms (including the junior suites & suites). All of the rooms have a stylish, minimalist design on the inside and are typical Aeolian design on the outside. Rooms are equipped with air-conditioning and mini-bar. They all have their own ensuite bathroom with shower and offer a sun bathing patio with sea views and teak lounge chairs. The Junior Suites are similar in style but larger in size and include a larger terrace area whilst the Suite is set out over two floors and includes 2 terraces.
|
| Raya Basso |
This area is based nearer the port and set in a larger building that offers 6 double rooms all located on the first floor. Three of the rooms offer partial sea views, whilst three face the interior of the Island. Again all of the rooms have been stylishly designed although these are smaller than the rooms situated in Raya Alto and most do not include a terrace. Rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, mini-bar and sauna/shower. The ground floor of this area features the Raya boutiques which offer a large selection of swim-wear, sarongs and general clothing and also an antique shop with South-East Asian ethnic furniture and art.
|
| Raya Peppe-Maria |
This area of the hotel is located in the port of San Pietro and offers a reception area and the main restaurant where a buffet breakfast and hot dishes (bacon and eggs). The restaurant which is open only for evening meals is on the terrace where guests can eat al fresco. There is also an upper terrace where guests can take aperitifs and enjoy the stunning views. The discotheque, which runs nightly from the last week of July and throughout August, has become infamous throughout the Aeolian and is now the hub of Panarese night-life.

| Area info. |
Panarea is one the smallest and lowest island of the Aeolian Islands, situated between Lipari and Stromboli. There are a number of small uninhabited islands that surround Panarea, which are all that remain of the once huge extinct volcanic crater, whilst Timpone del Corvo is the highest point at 412 m above sea level.
The three small hamlets, San Pietro, Ditella & Drauto, are all located on the eastern side of the island. The main port is located in San Pietro, which also offers a number of restaurants, shops and an ATM. Perhaps the most impressive location on the island is Cal Junco bay which is a charming beach enclosed by volcanic reefs and located at the southern most point of the island. From this beach a climb leads to a prehistoric village.
There are several options for travelling to and from the Aeolian Islands. Ferries and hydrofoils run from Milazzo to all of the Islands, but please refer to the ’Travel Info’ - Ferry section of the website for further information regarding travel to the Aeolian. For those flying to Catania, it is possible to take a taxi from the airport to Milazzo and then catch the hydrofoil or ferry. There is also a train service between Palermo and Milazzo. During Peak Season (June – September) there is also a regular hydrofoil direct to the Aeolian Islands from Naples and Palermo.
