The Caol Ishka is one of Siracusa’s newest hotels and represents one of the most individual and stylish structures on Sicily. The hotel was fashioned from an old Sicilian farmhouse and its outbuildings so offers traditional architecture along with a river-side location. Whilst the exterior is traditional, the hotel’s interior has been superbly styled with modern designs, lighting and furniture.
There are 10 bedrooms offering 6 standard, 3 superior double rooms and 1 deluxe double room. Most of the rooms have ground floor access but a few are located on the first floor. All of the rooms have air-conditioning, mini-bars, satellite flat-screen televisions and dvd/cd players. The bathrooms have been fitted with modern showers, toilets, sinks and bidets, whilst the deluxe room offers a luxurious bath. 6 of the rooms also offer verandas with sun-loungers.
One of the superior double rooms includes a computer, one is a twin room with a balcony offering views of Ortigia whilst the last superior room offers a four poster bed and views of the river.

Sites of interest within Siracusa include the ancient Greek Theatre, where performances are still staged during May & June and which forms part of a larger archaeological park. The Paolo Orsi museum has one of the best displays of archaeological remains in Sicily, whilst the old cathedral located in the heart of Ortigia dates from 1728 but includes 8th century Norman artefacts.
Siracusa also offers beaches which are generally located to the south of the city and include the resorts of Arenella, Fontane Bianche and the protected coastline of Vendicari.
Further afield from Siracusa, but within easy driving distance are the Baroque towns of Noto, Modica, Ispica and Ragusa Ibla. The popular resorts of Taormina, Giardini Naxos and Letojanni are located north of Catania, whilst the imposing form of Mount Etna is easily visible from Siracusa and offers numerous opportunities for excursions.
